Don't listen to all the negative reviews you read about this hotel it certainly isn't that bad. Check in for us was quick and seamless (we may have been lucky with our timing). We were booked into a room without a window but we were upgraded and our room was clean, comfortable and temperature was just right. Good power from the shower and had all the basics you need, toiletries, hairdryer, tea/coffee tray etc. All staff we came into contact with were helpful and friendly. Nice bar and lounge area to relax with some drinks, plenty of comfy sofas to sit on. . We had the buffet breakfast which was well laid out with plenty of choice. Maybe it isn't the Ritz but for the price you pay in a City Centre location it certainly is great value. We would stay there again

Spent a night in Manchester and this was the ideal city Centre hotel for me, £49 for a room without a window was fine as it was only a place to put my head down. I stayed in room 524, I'd been given a free upgrade without asking, the room was clean, the hotel itself was beautiful and full of history, I didn't have any issues with outside noise, the only gripe I had was lack of plug sockets, just two in the room and none near the bed. The bed was comfortable for me, I was able to lower temperature on the radiator so it wasn't as warm, I'd be very happy to stay here again. Also, as others have mentioned, ID is needed when checking in.

I love the exterior of this building and I do enjoy a vintage hotel but this one has no pride. I definitely overpaid for my room and to be honest I would advice not paying more than £60 - £70 per night. The door staff/security staff were lovely and very friendly but they are certainly not concierges. Checking in was an ordeal as every singly person staying there has to bring photo id and that includes children, so the chap booking in next to me was ringing a family member to photograph his sons passport and send it across. I asked the reception staff a basic question about staying in Manchester and she told me to google the answer and it wasn't as if anyone else was waiting at the time. The room door did not lock properly so we had to wedge a chair under the handle. Our window was so high up you could not see out of it. The toilets don't flush correctly. There is rust on any metal in the bathroom. The location of the hotel is great, so I am not saying don't stop here, I am saying don't expect too much and don't over pay.

Your mileage may vary, but we had a perfectly good stay. I had booked a room for three nights without window, but, in the end, we got a room (125) with three beds, a large bathroom and a window. The room was clean and the beds fine. The shower took a bit of working out (and the force of the water would take the paint of an oil tanker) but otherwise perfectly serviceable. Tea & coffee facilities in the room, large TV. The breakfast buffet downstairs was fine and included in the booking. Centrally located near to the metro to Old Trafford (we were here for the football) and Piccadilly station. If there are two things to improve: check-in times are too long, and you have to pay for the wi-fi in the rooms. Oh, yeah - the walls are pretty thin: we managed to listen in to a most fascinating discussion about the diabolical liberties the young lads in the room next door planned to take with the local, quote, wildlife, unquote on their night out. I learned a few new phrases, that's for sure. All in all I'd consider coming back again the next time we come to Manchester for the football.

We were slightly worried about staying here with the amount of negative reviews we’ve seen, but I’m pleased to say, do NOT believe everything you read online, the hotel is very nice inside and extremely clean, we were surprised to see a lot of negative reviews about check in taking ‘forever’, we arrived around 1;45pm ish and we checked in within 10 minutes and got a free upgrade with a member of the staff on reception (thank you), the room itself is very clean and spacious, the bar and lounge is stunning and the cocktails are delicious, the hotel has a perfect city centre location and is very close to all the shops and bars/restaurants, we will definitely stay here again.
